Barbecued Beef Recipe
Ingredients :
500 g sirloin steak
1/2 cup white sesame seeds
1/2 cup soy sauce
2 scallions chopped finely
2 cloves garlic, chopped finely
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon cooking oil
Method :
To ease the slicing of the steak, freeze it in the fridge for 30 minutes. Slice the steak into thin strips, cutting across the natural grain of the meat. While freezing the meat, toast the sesame seeds using a dry pan over moderate heat for 3 minutes or until the seeds are golden brown. Shake the pan occasionally. Remove from the heat once done to prevent burning. Use a mortar and pestle to crush the seeds. Mix the sliced steak, soy sauce, garlic, scallion and half the toasted sesame seeds. Toss to mix well. Marinate for about 2-3 hours.
Combine the sesame and cooking oil and brush them onto a heavy-based frying pan. Heat to very hot and cook the meat in 3 batches, searing each side for about 1 minute. Do not overcook to prevent the meat meat from being too chewy. Repeat the process for all the remaining meats. Sprinkle the extra crushed sesame seeds over the steak and serve with kimchi.
