Sweet Fried Beef Recipe (Daging Empal)

Ingredients :

750 g

1

Spices (ground)

1 tablespoon

7 cloves

1 teaspoon

1 tablespoon

1/2 teaspoon

Beef, fat and sinew removed

Salam leaf (or bay leaf as substitute)

Oil

Chopped galangal

Garlic

Tamarind

Coriander, roasted

Cumin, roasted

Salt and brown sugar

Method :
  • Boil beef with salam leaf until tender.
  • Remove and set aside.
  • Cut beef into pieces 1 X 6 X 8 cm.
  • Tenderize meat by pounding with the back of a knife.
  • Mix ground spices with remaining stock and stir well.
  • Add beef, and let it soak for 15 minutes.
  • Remove beef and fry in oil until golden brown.
  • Serve hot.

Note : Since brown sugar is used, the dish tastes rather sweet.
